Carlos Pomeda Philosophy Workshop

Carlos is one of the worlds most renowned yogic scholars.  He has run very successful workshops with us in the past and will be teaching a Friday afternoon workshops in May, on the Upanishads.  Spaces are limited so please book ahead.

Friday May 28th  1.30-6.30pm - The Upanishads - £50

We invite you to dive into the secret wisdom of the ancient yoga texts.  The Upanishads are perhaps the oldest mystical and philosophical texts available to mankind, containing the teachings and wisdom of the ancient sages.  These texts unfold a profound view of who we are and of the deepest dimensions of the world we live in and the purpose of existence.  For this reason they were traditionally meant to be received directly from a teacher rather than a book.

Introduction to Yoga Workshop

This is a workshop for beginners to yoga in which we will talk about what yoga is, where it comes from, the benefit of practising, and the different styles. During the workshop we will teach 3 short classes in contrasting styles - Hatha, Iyengar and Astanga, talk about why they are different and look at the sort of things you can expect to come across in yoga classes. There will be a short tea break during which there will be time for you to ask any questions, and also at the end of the workshop we will be happy to talk to you and recommend specific classes which would be best for you to attend. Suitable for complete beginners or students who have done some yoga before but may be confused about the different kinds of yoga.

Adjustment and Hands-on Work in Postures

This workshop will look at different ways of using a hands-on approach to helping students in postures. We will talk about the pros and cons of using adjustments, different ways of doing them, look at specific types of postures and various ways of adjusting students in these postures. There will be lots of time to practice on each other, discuss how it feels and begin to find your own way of doing things. There will be some anatomy involved. This day would be ideal for people already teaching and who maybe are not used to using relatively strong physical adjustments and who want to learn basic, safe technique.

Yoga For Depression

A workshop with Sarah Mackintosh.

We will look at the main ways people behave when depressed, either through personal experience or that of family, friends or students.  We will spend some of the day considering how we might deal with some of this behaviour through the prism of different approaches to human nature suggested by the Bhagavad Gita.  You do not need a detailed knowledge of the text, but general familiarity and having a copy to hand will help).  We will discuss in whole or smaller groups as you wish and we will do a series of exercises to demonstrate how the ideas put forward in the session could be put into practice.  You will need note taking materials, but handouts will be provided.  We will do some asana during the day to warm up and some to finish, but this will primarily be a day of discovery and discussion.  Places limited to 8.
