Introduction to Yoga Workshop

This is a workshop for beginners to yoga in which we will talk about what yoga is, where it comes from, the benefit of practising, and the different styles. During the workshop we will teach 3 short classes in contrasting styles - Hatha, Iyengar and Astanga, talk about why they are different and look at the sort of things you can expect to come across in yoga classes. There will be a short tea break during which there will be time for you to ask any questions, and also at the end of the workshop we will be happy to talk to you and recommend specific classes which would be best for you to attend. Suitable for complete beginners or students who have done some yoga before but may be confused about the different kinds of yoga.

September 27th 2.00-4.30pm - £20

Adjustment and Hands-on Work in Postures
with Nigel

This workshop will look at different ways of using a hands-on approach to helping students in postures. We will talk about the pros and cons of using adjustments, different ways of doing them, look at specific types of postures and various ways of adjusting students in these postures. There will be lots of time to practice on each other, discuss how it feels and begin to find your own way of doing things. There will be some anatomy involved. This day would be ideal for people already teaching and who maybe are not used to using relatively strong physical adjustments and who want to learn basic, safe technique.

Saturday December 20th 2008 12.00-6.00pm - £50

Chair Based yoga

with Lynda Miller and Elaine Foley

A fun, informative workshop that aims to introduce students to simple yoga postures and breathing techniques that can be taught from a chair. The session will demonstrate the versatility of chair-based yoga and show that with creativity and adaptation all range of movement is possible, making yoga accessable to everyone. The workshop is open to qualified teachers and student teachers and would appeal to anyone considering teaching yoga to the elderly, the injured and less able-bodied students.

Lynda Miller and Elaine Foley specialise in teaching yoga for Parkinsons.

Developing Seated asana for Pranayama and Meditation
Back to top

with Tara Fraser

A well balanced and comfortable ‘seat’ is essential for the practice of pranayama and meditation. In this workshop we will look at the crucial elements of developing the stamina, strength and flexibility to remain seated for prolonged periods with ease. There will also be some exploration of ways of progressing beyond asana to integrate these more subtle aspects of yoga into our practice. Open to those with some years experience of yoga and to teachers/student teachers.

Sunday 9th November 2008 12.30-6.00pm - £50

Forward Bends. Strength in Surrender

with Tara Fraser

Achieving ease in a forward bend requires a curious mixture of will power and surrender, and for many of us the simple seated forward bend can be the ultimate in challenging yoga asana. We will examine the technical and anatomical aspects of these poses both seated and standing. Part of our time will be spent exploring variations to suit each individual and looking at the mechanics of hip flexion and spinal movement. Beyond this, we will investigate and discuss the psychological, emotional and energetic implications of these poses and what they mean to us within the context of yoga and our daily lives. Open to all levels.

Sunday 7th December 2008 12.30-6.00pm - £50
